Tammy Than, OD, FAAO
Dr. Than received her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN.  She then completed a residency in Primary Care with an emphasis in ocular disease in Tahlequah, OK.  She also has a Master of Science degree in physical chemistry.  Currently, Dr. Than is a staff optometrist at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia where she is also the facility’s research coordinator.   She holds adjunct faculty appointments at UAB School of Optometry and Mercer University School of Medicine.  She publishes in several of the optometric journals and lectures nationally on various subjects including therapeutics, dermatology, and ophthalmic lasers.  Dr. Than is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.  Dr. Than received the UAB President’s Teaching Award in 2004, has received numerous teaching awards, and was named Young OD of the South in 2006.


Mark T. Dunbar, OD, FAAO
Dr. Mark Dunbar is a graduate of the Ferris State College of Optometry and did a Fellowship in Ocular Disease at the Omni Eye Services of Lexington, Kentucky.  He has been on the optometric staff at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for the past 20 years.  Dr. Dunbar currently serves as the Director of Optometric Services and the Optometric Residency Supervisor.  Mark Dunbar has authored numerous papers, has refereed many optometric journal articles and currently writes the monthly “Retina Quiz” in Review of Optometry.  He is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and is one of the founding members for both the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS) and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS).  In the state of Florida, Dr. Dunbar has been a member of the Topical Ocular Pharmaceutical Advisory (TOPA) Committee since 1991 and the Education Committee since 1993.  In addition, Dr. Dunbar has lectured throughout the world in addition to the American Academy of Optometry’s annual meeting, the AOA Congress and SECO International.

Fun Activities

 

Saona Island with Altos de Chavon (All Day event Wednesday. No Classes!!!) 

Accompanied by your professional guides, you will leave your hotel by air conditioning buses to reach the magnificent artist village of Altos de Chavon. Reconstitution of a Medieval village of the XVIth Century it overlooks the Chavon River where some scenes of the famous movie “Apocalypse Now” have been filmed.

You will enjoy free time to discover this beautiful village: main place, design school, shops and 5,000 seats amphitheatre.

After that we will go down the 200 steps that separated us from the river where our speed boats will be bringing us to the Saona Island.

Saona evokes all the images of that exotic paradise we all have dreamt of: white sandy beaches, coconut palms, crystal clear turquoise waters and above all the special Dominican touch that makes for an unforgettable day: smiles, rum and merengue.

We will make a first stop and cocktail at the amazing “Natural Pool” lagoon, rich in starfish.

A barbecue lunch will be served buffet-style under the shade of the palm trees right on the superb deserted beach of Saona.

What follows is up to you: lounging, beach games and entertainment, an introduction to merengue dancing or exploration of this undeveloped island.

 

For your return to the fishermen’s village of Bayahibe you will board impressive catamarans for a memorable 1h30 selling voyage complete with musical entertainment and unlimited drinks.

This is undoubtedly the best recipe for a day of total relaxation and beautiful photo souvenirs.

Marinarium

Around the under water worlds…

The participants will be transferred by air conditioned buses to our private beach located to the little fishermen’s village of Cabeza del Toro.

Once on board the boat, you will be ready to receive their snorkeling equipment and all the security instructions by the Marinarium Park supervisors.
Participants will have swim and snorkel along the coral reef, until you reach the Shark cave where you will enjoy a fun time with sharks and sting rays.

The boat will take you back to  follow the coast line until they have reached the Natural Pools from where they can enjoy a beautiful cocktail served directly in the water.

                  

Included: transportation, local beer, rum, sodas & water and a light snack. 

What to bring: Sunscreen, bathing suit, beach towels, camera, hat and dry clothes for the return trip in air conditioned buses.

If needed, bring money for souvenirs and gratuities.

A wonderful excursion in a 2 seat speedboat, go snorkeling along the beautiful shores of Punta Cana.

You will discover the Dominican countryside and its picturesque villages in an entirely different way.  Drive these amazing four-wheel motorbikes over deserted beaches and back roads lined with vast expanses of palm and coconut trees.
